Do you ever go to Anthology in San Diego? David Bromberg is playing tomorrow (Thurs) night if you're in a folksy mood, and Big Sam's Funky Nation will be there Friday.

You say y'all get no good stuff down there... :BOOHOO: but every time I look I find something that I would go see!

yes I been to Anthology, they have a lot of jazz but other artsy stuff as well. It's a little more refined atmosphere, where you sit and eat and sip wine and watch the show. Fancy menu a table cloths, you know what I mean. But everything has its time and I've had nice moments there.
This week is too busy for me but I got to see Greensky on Monday and I'm telling you, loading up their CDs in my car makes the commute feel less than half. Still not sure if it's just because of me enjoying the music or because I'm driving at their picking speed...

Thank you for this thread! Cornmeal at the Casbah? How the hell did I miss that one? I should check the forum more often in the off-season. Anyway, Orgone + Styletones at the BUT looks like a hot ticket.

ORGONE!!! Holy smoke they kick ass on stage. Every show is better than the last one. It was many years ago I was this excited about a band. New singer: Niki J Crawford. Hot. Smoking hot. Las Vegas in July hot. Indian Vindaloo, Thai Curry, Chinese mustard hot!!! Talked to her after the show. Yes, she's on the boat with the rest of the band. Sure Fanny was special but you won't regret buying JC tickets after seeing this version of Orgone. Pump it up now!

BTW, BUT has a number of acts in September for us SoCal:ers:
Sept 11 - Bruce Hornsby
Sept 20 - Dumpstaphunk
Sept 21 - Buddy Guy
Sept 23 - The Mother Hips
I'll miss Hornsby because I'll be working in the Glendale/Phoenix area that weekend.
Which brings me over to a question for AZ people...
On that Sunday Sept 11 I'm stuck at the hotel in Phoenix. Anything going on in the area that day? Always fun to meet jamily when out and about...

I was home from The Heavy Pets tour for 2 weeks and was able to see one of my new fav bands (Phish). After 10 years of bashing them, I have now seen 10 shows this summer. Hollywood Bowl was fun. My recording is up on etree.

Phish was playing really well this summer,i saw a couple shows that were a little lacking but for the most part they were tight.

i saw you asleep on eric's couch when the heavy pets were in town(philly).i was like:'i know that guy from somewhere?' i figured it out later.

I hear you, but at least you get to keep them around for most of the year!

Warm-up band was Soul Rebel Brass Band. A typical N'awlins street corner brass band that was good enough to start touring. Maybe not the most refined sound but they definitely blew their horns with heart and determination! Cool rendition of Sweet Dreams (are made of this) at the end. The sousaphone player was definitely working it. Lots of Dirty Dozen feel to it!

Dumpstaphunk rocked it, as expected. Most exciting thing for me was the new drummer. As you may know Raymond Weber is not playing with DP anymore (allegedly he and Ivan had a falling out) so now former Beyonce drummer Nikki Glaspie took his seat. Besides the natural excitement of seeing a woman drummer, she no question held her own at the skins and also added some sultry vocals. They let her lose on one tune and she turned it more metal than funk! I don't know for sure if she'll be at JC, but I see online that she has toured with DP ever since Raymond left so I guess there's hope.

My next planned events at the Belly-Up is Oct 14-15, two days of Karl Denson. On the 14th he plays with Anders Osborne. Then on Oct 27 it's Funky Meters.
As usual post or PM if you're going. From what I can gather from this forum, San Diego seems to be the last area with more than one cruiser but no Krewe. We gotta change that. Hey even Seattle makes us look like amateurs! Are we gonna take that? Hell no!!! :D
