I agree. He butchered that one song (completely blanked on the name) before he went into Landslide. But Landslide brought me to the floor instantly. I wept with my eyes closed the entire song because I had just applied a shit ton of glitter around them and was scared that it would get into them and irritate them. Next time, I will be prepared to cry without things on my eyes until after the atrium set. I should have known better to be honest :)

An absolutely beautiful set, only on jam cruise can something like that happen.

Bummed to have missed this one. I don't know where the heck I was.

One of my highlights from Jazzfest this past year was the Ivan Neville and Friends show at Le Petit Theater where he played all of his old soulful music recorded back in the 80's and 90's. Just him and a piano would be divine!

What brought me to tears 1st was when he started tearing up talking about how special Jam Cruise is. Priceless moment right there. :)

And what was the name of the song he wrote about a Captain? Talking abotu the wrong path he was going down and how he came out of it was a tear jerker also. Ivan really opened up to us during that set both mentally and emotionally. Thank you Ivan.

It was the best Piano Set to date IMO

I love him more than ever before

Yeah that plant is too big, point taken

What about a microphone? You want one there? Or would it take away from the intimacy?

Some amplification would have been nice. We saw a couple of the atrium sets from the balconies on 6 & 7, and if someone was walking by talking, it was very distracting.

Not a full crazy setup, but even if they could patch into the PA system around the atrium.

It might be nice to have a mic for those in the top rafters. It was hard for me to hear and I was sitting behind him. A little amplification might be nice but it also might echo. no?

Yes, and the atruim recordings are very piano heavy/light on the vocals. A simple mic setup would be nice!

I agree, vocals can get a little short-changed sometimes in the atrium. I'm sure the accoustics is a challenge, but nothing an experience audio tech couldn't fix.

That song was "Hail to the Captain" and was a special request from Art Neville, who was sitting upstairs. My wife heard him trying to let Ivan know he wanted to hear it, but he could barely speak. She went downstairs and let Nick Daniels know about Art's request. Everyone standing around Art broke out in tears when Ivan started singing it.
