Caravan of Thieves - JC 11

So, there is a thread for Deep Banana Blackout which means that Fuzz Fuzzman could be back on board. He is absolutely amazing! But, better then him bringing the funky bananas to the line-up, his project with his wife, Carrie Sangiovanni, Caravan of Thieves is absolutely amazing gypsy jazz group and should be considered as well.

First, if you don't know who Django Reinhart is, then you need to Google that musician and listen to his gorgeous sound. Then check out some videos of this group. I think we can all agree that there is no other group in our community of music that is giving us access to Django's sound in such a great way. And not only are they the only one's keeping the gypsy jazz spirit alive, but THEY ARE GREAT AT IT. SO MUCH SPIRIT!

To top it off, they are by no means traditional in their approach. They are quirky and do exciting coves, dress in period clothing, get CRAZY (kind of like how Trombone Shorty's peoples dance all over the stage and on their backs). It's just an overall fun, great, interesting time. I think it would open some people up to that style and that is an important style that we can't let die.

I'm all for this. Denny and I had a lot of fun with their Bohemian Rhapsody on our road trip to Florida. The fact that we were delirious helped.

My good friend Evan Perri of Hot Club of Detroit, who has appeared on NPR, is an artist that is:

Not trying to say Caravan of Thieves isn't a spectacular act, just that your statement about their exclusivity in the genre within "the scene" is incorrect, unless you are referring to NYC area acts. Actually, as a matter of fact, Hot Club of Detroit has played in NYC on multiple occasions.

Still haven't gotten a chance to see GSW. A friend told me about them back in '98, and I told him about SCI. Wine and cheese.

And since there is one for NY, is there one for every major city? I would love to see them live and have marked my site to watch out for when they come. But, for now, I have only seen Caravan of Thieves (Fuzz) give me a decent D'jango rage. I will most certainly consider HCoD when speaking about that genre in our scene.
