Can someone with more knowledge than I on taping answer a question for me?
I often see shows that look like they're posted by the same taper with two different sets of microphones. For example, on bt.etree.org, the Umphrey's pool deck show was recently posted. One is taped with Schoeps mk22-cmc6, the other with Schoeps mk4-cmc6. Should I care which one I get?
I understand when they post things encoded at different bitrates, but I'm never sure what I'm supposed to do when the same show (ostensibly taped a the same location) is posted twice from different mics.
These are 2 different mic sources, both sets of my mics were on the same stand, both used a Lunatec V3 as a preamp and both went into the same SD788. I record it all at 24x48 and then resample and dither later to the 16x44.1. As far as which one to get I'd say do some comparisons and get them both and listen to both then decide which you want to keep.
I've had my mk4's for about 8 years but just got the mk22's and personally I am liking the mk22's better they just seem to be brighter than the mk4's
