Sitting here at 5:26 am }insomina{ two bingers in, coffee and coconut cream in my mug and
hoola hoop to my left... I have never been so excited to meet people in my life. What does
it say about me if I already am running around and saying "holyshitholyshitholyshit this is amazing!"

Whirlygirl...I am also a virgin! But while this is our first JC, we are not alone by any means. We have a bunch of friends who are seasoned JC'ers and we are in that balcony 3-some with the Coles (See Lynne's post above!)

Can I just say that I am very grateful to you for asking all of these questions because I have been wondering many of the same things myself...although we have asked our friends lots of things too. I have been doing land fests since dinosaurs roamed the land but never ever even cruised before, much less JamCruise. Anticipation of proper preperation has infiltrated my dreams nightly...but I know it doesn't really matter what I bring or don't bring, it's all gonna be awesome!

Look forward to meeting you! We can toast our new found virginity!!! Although, my party begins when my NOLA peeps arrive at my house on Jamuary 5th...WOOHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

I am so happy to meet another virgin!! We shall celebrate that for sure!! I know what you mean about it doesn't matter what we bring!! I have been doing land festivals for a long time too and I could not agree more that IT IS GOING TO BE AMAZING!!

And now the schedule has been posted!! I have so much work to do before this!! I am heading down to the Capital Theater for the weekend to see my friend's band and then all my attention will be on JC ever so happily!

My reply is a little boring, but here goes. Two of the most valuable pieces of advice I got as a virgin:

#1) Arrive the day before the cruise and leave the day after. Anything could delay your plane, and you've invested too much money and excitement to get left on the shore when the boat leaves. My first year, we nearly missed a connecting flight because a bird had flown into the plane's engine, grounding the flight. We got the last seat on another plane out, or we would have been stuck there until the following day (of course, we wouldn't have missed the boat anyway, because we took the advice to leave a day early!)

Why stay a day later? Some people are spry enough to do what they have to do to get home, but all I've been able to do is crawl to the nearest hotel and marathon sleep after capping off the cruise with an all-nighter in the disco. Also, things happen! Last year, the ship was several hours late returning to Ft Lauderdale, and countless flights were missed.

#2) Get insurance! Get insurance! Get insurance! The insurance available through Cloud Nine is cheap and effective. Our first year, the weather kept us in Ft Lauderdale for 4 extra days after the cruise while a snowstorm insured no planes were going anywhere near where we were trying to go. The insurance company paid every last penny that we claimed, from extra fees to park our car in our hometown airport, to extra dog boarding fees, to taxi rides to and from the airport to check on flights, to meals, to extra nights at the Bahia.

Have fun!

Hi soon to be Jamily -
The hubby and I are also virgins and can't wait to join the Jamily... I do have one additional question that hasn't been addressed yet... We have been told by an RO who will be on board this year as well that we should bring our own booze. From what I have read that seems to be a) not allowed b) frowned upon c) not possible d) relative easy if you hide it well in your bags? Thoughts?

So happy to see so many new cruisers!!!
You have done (at least!) one thing right - you have joined the forum!
Introduce yourself, for instance in the "5 facts" thread. Come here often.
And post, post, post!!!
And read the FAQ. Don't only read it. Memorize it. Print it out and put it
under your pillow. Dream about it. Reinact it. Absorb it.
Let's make the Forum explode with happy cruiseness!!!
