Speaking of favorite musicians playing together...I am super stoked about the Omaha Diner show as well! I think it's been at least 5 yrs since Bobby Previte has been in town for JF. Maybe he'll also do a straight up Coalition show at some point too. Haven't seen that in a while and would love to!

fingers crossed!

we've been lucky in the NW in that Bobby Previte came to town a few times in the past year, staying for 1-3 weeks at a time... playing in Shuffleboil w/Wayne Horvitz, Tim Young & Joe Doria, some Miles Davis shows that were a who's who of local musical treasures, etc. Always a treat, and would love love LOVE to see him in NOLA!

The line-up and even set lists for RFB have not varied all that much lately, so I would not put that into the "best show of JF" category musically. But it is where everybody on this board is going to be Thursday night, and that is of course a great event in of itself.

I'm a huge fan of the Monday / Tuesday nights at the Blue Nile with Frequeniox, Dr Lonnie Smith and the Whip. It might be time for them to switch things up a bit, since even the greatest nights of music can get stale, but man that have been some of the greatest hours of live music I've ever seen. This year will be the second time they have Stanton with Karl D and Will Blades latenight on first Sunday. That was a great set last year as well.

Went on first jamcruise this year, now time for first jazz fest, 2013 is shaping up to be a good one. Quick question, are all the bars/venues listed on the grid in the same vicinity or spread through out the city.

the venues are spread throughout the city,if you stay in the frenchquarter you'll be walking distance to 80% of them.tipitina's,the rock'n bowl and a few others will be a cabride.plan to spend 200 per on cabs.

I probably spend 80 a day on av. for taxi's but i go to 3 or 4 area's a day, Frenchman St has a lot of music venues on it so if you don't want to be bouncing around in a taxi too much plan to be there alot

George Clinton and P Funk just got added to the grids!!!!

how is the HOB? its one that i haven't been in other then the parish

I haven't been to HOB, but from reviews and pictures I've seen it's more or less the same as all HOB venues around the country. Pretty, exotic design, AC turned too high, very crowded if sold out, good sound but poor sight lines.

If you want to safe money on cabs, take the street cars (or rent a bike). Tips for example is only about 7 blocks from a trolley stop, and the Maple Lead is even closer. All venues in the Quarter are easy walking distance, and even the Howlin Wolf in the Warehouse District is only a 25 minute walk from Frenchmen St on the other side of the Quarter. Cabs are sometimes hard to get, especially at busy parts of town, so I always ended up walking most of the time.
