Not to hijack this thread again... but while Victoria DID finally just get her bike, it's a freaking mess and looks like someone else has been riding/trashing it for the last year that she was supposed to have it. Dirty, chipped paint, uncoated and now weathered bamboo, etc. I'm assuming this is Panda's doing and not JC/Greening, but still. WTF. Horrible. 15 goddam months of waiting. 15 months of being without a car, as she gave it up as part of her pledge to ride this bike she won to/from work etc. 15 months later... and she got a used, broken piece of crap :NAUGHTY: NOT RIGHT

Sorry to hear that, should have been checked by the people who knew how long and eager you were to get it.
Maybe, they will step up and correct this and get it to you, maybe, before 2015.
The awards programs seem generous up front but from my own and others experiences, seem to often fall short. Peoples intentions before and during cruises are bursting with helpful energy but soon after their sights are already set on next year.
On an early JC I won a prize which I never got.
On JC6(?) I won VIP tiks to 10,000 Lakes Fest...Those tickets took many months, countless phone calls and emails (I sill have the paper trail of the many offices I had to go through) to finally obtain....then, when I flew, at my expense, from Florida to Minnesota, rented a car, drove another 200 miles....I find they don't have VIP tiks for me....wanted to set camp while daylight but fiasco took me most of the evening chasing down people with walkie talkies all over the huge park until I reached a head honcho who, sorta, made it right. Lost the entire first evening of music.
Long bitch & moan letter to 10KLF later got me comp'd for following year which I immediately sold.
On my last JC I got a note under my cabin door saying I won a prize and to come claim it, When I tried to claim prize they said flyers were put under wrong doors and I should have not received it (and my name was on it!) they wouldn't even tell me what I didn't win.

I really hope they fix this for you.
And Gorilla, at this point, deserves the full VIP treatment...it's a pennies on the dollar situation for the sponsor.
Around here, we wave covers for people all the time...cost nothing to do....then patron winds up spending inside club anyways....always a win-win.

I feel like a little clarification is necessary. The bike has quite a few chips and scratches, and dirt from riding and sitting in a bike shop. I'm guessing they rode the bike, and transported it around as a demo. It looks like it has a little bit more than the normal wear and tear of a one year old bike. Not the end of the world, but a bit disappointing since they supposedly custom built the frame and bike for Victoria. They also did not put the shiny coat of lacquer, or whatever they use, on the bamboo, as was on their demo bikes on the boat on JC 10 and as is also shown on all of their marketing materials. So we're not sure if we need to do something to protect the wood. If we had actually paid the $3000 retail price of this bike we would be furious. But, it only cost us shipping. She definitely expected it to be in new condition though. It also sustained some damage in shipping to the rear axle and shifting mechanism, but I was able to order the replacement parts and will be able to fix it.

We do really appreciate Bryan from Greening taking the time and effort to step in and get the bike delivered.

I think the take home point here is that if Cloud 9 plans to continue to give away prizes on Jam Cruise, they just need to properly vet the sponsors and conduct a little better oversight on the prizes being offered, and the distribution of prizes to the winners.

Sounds like their company is not doing well. Who would buy a 3000 dollar bamboo bike?? Even top of the line racing bikes don't cost that much. Bad PR won't help though. I'm glad Victoria got her bike, I'm sure some TLC and a visit to the bike store will get it into shape.

I hope this helps:

Apparently Brad Pitt owns one.

Mr. Pitt did own one but it got stolen, if you all can keep your eyes out for it he would appreciate it. He told me that it might be a little dirty, the bamboo is kind of weathered, a bit of paint damage, he has been riding it for some time now. Just let me know if you see it and i will pass on the info.

I havent logged on here in a while. Just wanted to post an update.
They have contacted us and said they will be taking care of us on camping. So it looks like camping will be included after all.

I just want to apologize to the gentleman I have been dealing with on this issue for bringing this matter to an internet forum before I gave him a chance to rectify the situation.

My main issue was, I asked about camping many months ago because I wanted to make sure I got 'main venue camping', either as part of my prize, or buy it myself. After we won the prize we invited a large number of friends who all secured Main Venue camping early on. I was pretty concerned (after what I described in the OP) that all my newb festie-virgin friends would end up in main venue camping, and I would end up in "Riverside Camping", 3 miles down the road, taking a shuttlebus back and forth all day.

But anyways, the people handling prize distribution said we DO get main venue camping. So i just wanted everyone to know they did take care of us. Sorry for any grief I caused anyone for going public with my dissatisfaction. thanks for fixing the problem.

I am happy :)

Pure lameness. :NAUGHTY:
I guess post-cruise follow-up and prize fulfillment, is the next area where Jam Cruise needs to focus some serious attention and improve!
They did listen when we bitched about the food for years... and are still listening :)

"They did listen when we bitched about the food for years"?

really? man, if the food is better now, i cant imagine how bad it used to be. JC has very little room for improvement, but I think the food is definetly an area where they could improve

This sounds more than frustrating.

If you still want to go to Waka, I'd contact the girls at Pipeline and explain your situation. They are very nice and understanding. I'm sure they could come up with a solution if you want to buy main-venue camping.

edit: I just sent you a pm, Gorilla.

Hey, thanks I really appreciate the offer in PM. Like i said, it does look like they are taking care of us. But i appreciate the offer to help. :)

Yeah, it has been quite frustrating, but, one of the folks, either from Positive Legacy or Zero Hero stepped in and has facilitated procurement of the bike. In fact, Victoria was told this past week that it was being shipped. So, fingers crossed, maybe, 16 months after she won it, she may be receiving this elusive bicycle...

I think part of the problem with the prizes is that I think they are generally donated by sponsors and C9 isn't directly involved with distributing them to the cruisers that win them.

If there is one thing Jam Cruise could have done differently here, I wish they had just given us the tickets on the ship. I am like obsessive compulsive about planning vacations. Every thing down to the smallest detail is planned months in advance. Bags are packed 2 weeks in advance to make sure nothing is forgotten.
We went to Jam in the Dam a couple years ago. I literally packed our bags early enough to realize a passport was missing. we had enough time to secure another passport, and make the vacation, because that is how far in advance of a trip I pack my bags. (on a related note, if you ever lose a passport, Fastport Passport http://www.fastportpassport.com is AMAZING!!! They really can do everything they claim)

It is scary to be getting on a plane, flying across the country, renting a car, driving hundreds and hundreds of miles, to hope I have tickets waiting for me when I arrive. I really wish they had just given us the tickets on the boat. I guess they dont want people reselling them. But if they gave them out on ship there would be no question as to what kind of tickets people won.
For instance Waka has Wednesday Arrival tickets, Thursday Arrival Tickets, and Friday Arrival tickets. we've never been told which type of 'arrival date' tickets we have. I am hoping for thursday, otherwise we will be hanging out outside the gate for a long time :/

I couldnt agree more.
also, repeating your experience with 10KLF is my biggest fear at this point.

also I would love love love the full VIP treatment. At this point though I will just be happy when I have tickets in my hand.

agreed. I am a lawyer and so is my other half. Half of what I do for a living is find ambiguities and parse words. Find uncertainties and seize on them. If they give out prizes on the ship, and not months after the fact, there wouldnt be ambiguities and uncertainties as to what people won and when they can expect to receive the prize.

Also, (because I had someone ask off board), it cost money to play bingo. It was not free. It was essentially gambling just like in casino bingo. We paid to play, which in contract law would be called 'valuable consideration'.

Anyways, like I said it appears they fixed the problem and made the situation right. And again, i just want to apologize for going public with this, and I want to thank all involved for helping fix the situation :)

This surprised me. Bingo costs money to play on the ship now? I haven't played in the last couple of years but when I did, there was no cover charge or anything, it WAS free to play. Did you need cash or was it something they charged to your ship card? How much was it to play? Sorry for all the questions, super curious :)

Glad everything worked out for you with the camping!
