Costa Maya is a nice port city. Which means, once the boats leave, every one goes home.
So, sleep late, get off the boat and get some good food.
They have good food, bars, swimming pools and the beach in walking distance from the boat in the port.
You can get great deals on jewelry if you bargain shop.
The only negative is the dolphin prison.

Make sure you know what time it is and don't miss the boat when it departs Costa Maya.
I speak from experience!

Yes, the port of Costa Maya is a faux village/tourist trap that has all of your standard cruise port crap (i.e. Carlos and Charlies, Diamonds International and other over priced schwag) as well as a large pool with a swim up bar and an area that is blocked off in the ocean, right along the tourist trap, where they have a few dolphins and the guy who makes them do tricks.
The secret of this port is either taking a long walk or a short cab/bus ride down the road to the town of Mahahual. This is where you find beautiful beaches, cheap massages under palm trees, great food and drinks and souvenirs at half the price of the port! 8)
I know this is what Tu tu Lew is talking about.
And take Poolboy's advice to heart and make sure you're on ship time!
Oh, and Hilary.... are you doing kickball here again?? That sure was a fun day and a nice set up you had arranged!
