Jam Cruise is the best ever, and the bands that make regular appearances should generally continue to do so. However, we need some fresh blood to mix up the groovy sonic palate that is The Boat.

The Roots (would crush their headlining sets, would have great sit-ins, and would probably sit in a lot with other bands, especially ?uestlove, who could also DJ in the disco, or the solar stage, and could also be in the Masters Camp. Plus having at least ONE real true MC on the boat should be requisite.)

Escort (this is one of the coolest bands I've seen in years. Like a funky modern disco orchestra, with great vocals taboot! They would CRUSH Jamcruise. Would be a highlight for many.)

Betty Lavette (incredible soul singer with a killer band. So incredible. Would also up the female quotient of the boat)

Parov Stelar Live Band (incredible dance music. Electro Swing. Rekanize!)

Rubblebucket (incredibly funky, quirky, original band from Brooklyn with many disparate influences. On their way up. Been pushing them to Jamcruise for years now)

The Bamboos (very awesome funk band from Australia)

Budos Band (super funky instrumental band from the Daptones label)

Tedeschi Trucks Band (for obvious reasons)

Motion Potion I believe is the quintessential DJ for our scene and Jamcruise. He is consistent and awesome. He's one of us.

DJ Equal should get a shot too.

Lack of Afro is a great DJ.

Biz Markie DJ set (maybe he could sit in with some band too if the vibe is right)

Q-Tip DJ set (same note as above)

Mavis Staples would be perfect on The Boat.

She is an incredible talent, consistently tours with an ace band, and is a living legend who everyone adores. Countless bands would ask Mavis to lend her powerful, soulful vocals to a tune or two.

She could give a talk in the afternoon about her career. I would be there hanging on every word, and it would be glorious.

Mavis Staples would be an inspired booking by Jam Cruise. She'll take us 'There'.

Saw Del McCoury twice, at the Virginia Key Music Festival (it is a grassroots music festival, in the Miami area in February--just stay a month in Miami after Jam Cruise--just kidding I think, guess you'd have to fly back), and at UNC-Chapel Hill playing with Dave Grisman. He is fantastic. His new CD, the "Street of Baltimore", is terrific. Saw him presented with a birthday cake for his 70th at Virginia Key, talked to him in person in Chapel Hill, he is not just a great musician, he is a heck of a nice guy. But Jam Cruise? I don't think he fits (although the Infamous Stringdusters on Jam Cruise actually apologized for being a bluegrass band and then they kicked butt).

His style of asking the audience what they want to hear would be difficult on the boat due to the smaller bluegrass fan contingent (and is strictly bluegrass), but the boys with Alan and Jason put on some mad jams. We'd have to get them out of those suits though. :)
