Should we take advantage of these drink packages available from the cruise line in advance? Or should we expect to have to purchase special Jam Cruise drink tickets on board like years past?

The only ones I've seen available for purchase in advance are for bottled water? They aren't offering any of the normal-cruise style packages on ours. Just the *really expensive* bottled water. Presumably it'll be tickets as usual for the booze & soft drinks :)

When I logged in to create the Norwegian account yesterday, they were offering alcohol packages for advanced purchase. Maybe I'm seeing things, I'll have to go back and check but if that's the case (and they're valid for our cruise), I would buy those packages now!

That would be cool indeed! Like I said, when I did my online checkin thing, the only beverage packages I had to choose from were bottled water ones. Not quite as exciting, but... hydration is important! ;)

Unless your bringing a filter, iodine or bleach... I highly recommend bottled water, whatever the cost.

Although Norwegian Pearl has good inspection ratings, they reported well over 600 illness outbreaks from '07 to 2015. Bear in mind this does not included ports outside the US which do not require any reporting to the CDC

Drink Tickets -

You get charged CITY TAX on purchases while in port. I mean up until the point where the boat starts moving. Dont be in a hurry to buy all your tickets when you board. In 2015 I asked the bartender about this and she assured me I wasnt being charged tax. I sure was. The rate of tax in Miami eats up the one free drink ticket per pack of tickets. Use your card till the boat gets moving.

Another thing - they run out of booze (and motivation) the last night so dont buy too many tickets.

And yet another thing - Keep all your receipts and check your bill before you get off the boat. In 2015 they overcharged us for a couple things, including the minibar that was locked the entire time. It took a dozen calls and a dozen emails to MSC over six months to clear it up after returning home.

Not on MSC so may require a different strategy
