What were your top 5 sets? Hard to choose, I know. I think mine were:

Turkuaz (Theater)
Kamasi Washington (Theater)
Magic Gravy
Stanton's Jazz Lounge
the epic GriZ dance party in the theater

PS: worst set - the amazing fail of Jesus and Zoidis in the disco, that was just crap, they didn't even try.

our favorites overlap a lot, go figure :P I think mine are (in no particular order):

magicgravy (I think they've been top of my list every cruise they've played)
Kamasi Theater
Stanton Jazz Lounge
Cayman-replacement Dead Set
Love Canon Atrium (I love these guys, and I really loved people-watching during this set - seeing folks stumble upon it and crack up :D )

Was there actually a Spot this year? Every time I went out there I saw people sitting around smoking with instruments in their hands and not playing :( Perhaps just my constant bad timing... oh well.

I like how the thread title is Top 3 and then you say what are your top 5. It's like buying a used car. Terms are negotiable.

1. Magic Gravy
2. Komikazi (Theater)
3. Nikki Glaspie Super Jam
4. Griz in the Theater
5. Dancing with Julie McCoy and like 50 other people at Percy Hill in the Spinnaker Lounge.
6. Electric Beethoven's third symphony (it's not music it's medicine)

PS- Tai, I agree that the Disco needs some work. There is a contingent of people who really want the disco to bring da heat sometimes. We need it. If there was one thing that could be better, it would be to bring a couple of top notch DJs on to really heat up the Bliss Lounge from time to time. If the way people responded to Griz is any indication of what folks are into, I say we should definitely be looking in that direction. Hopefully C9 knows this and will book a few more actual DJs next year.

The spot really got going on the last two nights.

I think the 3 that stood out the most for me was

JoJo's set
Lettuce
Beats Antique

Also it seemed like the Meters did pretty much the same set both nights except for a couple of songs. I ended up leaving early the second night.

Turkuaz Sail Away set
Grateful Dead at Sea
Lettuce Pool Deck
JoJo's Theatre set
Had to make some tough choices this year and missed a few things that I really wanted to see. Need to figure out how to split my physical being and be in more than one place........

Kamasi Washington theater - exceeded my already high expectations. I hope this band is back.

Stanton Moore atrium - loved this front to back. Shaun Gilmour on drums for Tchfunkta was pretty rad, glad there is video of that on youtube

Lebo & Friends - I had a great time in there, very intimate and feel-good. A lot of us don't get to hang out in SF all the time so it's nice to see these projects

Seeing Kamasi show up at the Jam Room on the last morning around 3 when Break Science was still trying to figure out what to do. Seeing him shuffle down the hall murmuring that he would come back later when it was cooking. Seeing the lights come on in the Jam Room at precisely 4:00 AM. And I mean precisely. Kamasi didn't make it back. Not in my top 3 moments for sure!
