Well I started this thread and now maybe I can end it.

And I hate to generalize and I was not even going to comment on it BUT someone else commented on it already so I'll add my $0.02- the Bisco vibe I felt from their fans is NOT my kind of vibe - It felt weird - I saw a hat that said "Bisco Crack" and that's what I thought - crackheads - that kind of dirtbag / lowlife vibe more than anything.

Yours,
Cameraboy (remaining "semi-anonymous" (people know who I am) because I fear Jacey's wrath!!!)

I really take offense to this statement. I am an avid Biscuits fan, and if they had not been on the cruise, I wouldn't have been there. I'm also not a "scenester". I happen to think that TDB makes music that sounds the best to me. I'm not sketchy, I don't do drugs, I'm clean cut and am in no way shape or form a "dirtbag/lowlife". I see the band often(when they are playing near me) but I'm def. no tour rat. I can't get over all this generalizing and hate that going on with these boards. Remember: The band can't choose who comes and buys a ticket for their show, although they could do something about their photo policy and staff.

wow ... you all sound a little angry ... might go a little deeper than the biscuits or jacey ... think about it. these are pictures for chris sakes material things objects ... the band has a policy who are you to question WHY they do not allow pictures? Maybe they've been exploited or taken advantage of ... maybe having a camera in your face distracts you and causes you to miss a cue and when you or your bandmates and fans are perfectionists and demand perfection of you every night ... c'mon now lets just call a spade a spade ... i was on the boat and I saw a lot of people taking pictures of the biscuits, I have seen more pictures of the biscuits than ANY other band posted thus far ... I saw a lot of people taking pictures with NO hassles, and I saw a few people get told to put there cameras away... they were generally up-close to the band ...close enough that the smart person realizes he could be a distraction with his camera... I can't help but wonder if the person who started this negativity is the same guy I saw who got asked once to stop taking pictures and then put his camera down, walked 20 feet to start taking pictures again and then getting told to stop ... I don't know Jacey, but I do know the bands policy (and the other bands whom I frequent) and I can respect that ... I was under the impression that it is the exception rather than the rule that performers allow photos ...

No one likes the person who enforces the rules especially when you are the one breaking them.

And no one likes the guy who can't follow the rules.

This thread really bothers me. whining... negativity ... ignorance ...

... DISRESPECT ...

Publicly flaming someone like this is child-ish ...

Cameraboy, you are the guy I am always trying to avoid and I am glad I do not frequent your watering holes.

You all might want to think twice before you let old boy here work you into a frenzy.

jacey was NOT the person who was causing the problems, but it was someone associated with her carrying out the band's policies and she was the one with the bad attitude. Jacey is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet....the other person definitely took her minor role a tad too far. So please don't give Jacey your wrath...she was only carrying out the band's wishes (her job...just like you carry out your bosses). if you want to make comments, i would only mention how her colleague could have been more friendly in carrying out her duties.

have a good one,

carm

To the guest who doesn't want to "Frequent my watering hole."

Firt of all - you're a hypocrite - calling someone on negativity and then engaging in it yourself. Come on - lighten up. My intent has been to make this person aware of the negative impact of her actions and I believe that it probably worked. I wonder if anyone has emailed her or the band letting her/them know this thread exists. I'd be willing to bet she knows by now. If she does, then possibly some good can come of this so-called "negativity" you're upset about. I think that ultimately this could be a positive thing. It's all what SHE makes out of it.

Second - I was not the guy who took a pic, was told to stop, and then walked 20 feet and took another pic. I was the guy who took a pic, was very rudely interrrogated, and then walked away from the Disco Biscuits (probably forever) and put my camera away.

Third - Re-read the post on this thread about being a musician and all that accompanies that position. If the band wants to deny me my memories and prohibit me from taking NON-FLASH AND UNOBTRUSIVE pix of them because it may distract them, then I want nothing to do with that band or their flashing strobing stage lights. I wasn't some hollywood paparazzi trying to invade their privacy or personal space and interfere with their personal lives. I was taking nonflash pix of a band I paid to see and I was doing it from an audience position.

Fourth - my apologies for the lowlife dirtbag remarks. I was, as I wrote previously, hesitant to generalize. It's very rarely the right thing to do. However, I stand by the point I was trying to make. As long as we're talking about nebulous, intangibles like "energy" and "vibes," I think generalizing is permitted. And in general, the vibe I got from their fans, and sadly from the band's management, was a negative one. Sorry but the hat that I saw and referenced (Bisco Crack) really seemed to crystallize the feeling I had about that band.

Listen, I'm kind of a "professional" music fan like most of you reading this. I go to more shows in a year than I can count or remember. I've been doing it for many many years - since most of the passengers on that ship were in grade school. Over the years I have seen behavior from audience members that has made me cringe and embarrassed to be part of the audience and I have even seen behavior from bands that has driven me away from the bands. This is one of the latter instances.

Finally, I'm not trying to whip anyone into a frenzy - I just wanted to let CameraNazi (Jacey if that is indeed who she is) know of the negative impact of her actions. And THAT can only benefit the "scene" we are all a part of - whether we like being "part of it" or not.

Yours,
Cameraboy

PS: This thread is dead. If ya wanna yell at me some more, start a new topic. I'll respond - promise. Lets' just kill this thread and hope that the people who need to hear about it have heard about it - I'm talking to you CameraNazi! ;)

c'mon y'all.

this is not just a tDB thing. tons of bands have 'no camera' policies. tons of venues do, too.

personally, i am thankful that they allow taping instead. i'd much rather have the music as a memory momento than some picture. :)

I think we need to keep Bisco fans out of this, for the most part. I know a bunch of great ones.

However, there is a reason why some people have had negative experiences with some of them. First of all, the hardcore of them are absolutely FIERCE about their band. So much so, that many of them paid all that money just to see them only floating on that boat. Also, many I have met have very little interest in the rest of the jam scene outside of TDB. Some think everything else simply sucks. They are, of course, wrong :P Regardless of that, it can make them sound arrogant.

Nevertheless, they are entitled to live in their Bisco world, even if some of them can rub us the wrong way occaisionally. I've noticed that once you get to know even some of the freakiest Bisco-crazies, that they are actually good people.

i felt the wrath of biscuit fan base before getting on the boat. they all seem a bit too fanatical for me. i can certainly do without them on the next boat.
on another note, i have yet to hear the same stories of picture bashing with any other band. what's so special about them? bunch of softies if you ask me.

i cannot handle DB at all. ive given them so many tries but they dissappoint me every time. The guitar work is pitifull. I couldnt believe that they would start out a jam with a pre-recorded twitchbox jam and then start playing along with it. maybe their fans smoke too much DMT and have lost their minds, think they are amazing, but its a bunch of smoke and mirrors. Too many effects and not enough honest instrumentation. They sounded like pure hell their last night on the open deck. soo fucked up and incohherant^sp. we sat there by the pool hoping for some good music but it just didnt happen.

Hmm, I like Biscos . . . . live.

The only thing i noticed is that alot of Biscuits fans said they "came to see bisco's and that's it" Remember, vareity is the spice of life, boys and girls. I like all the bands, and I was there to see every single one . . some for the first time, some for the 20th - I loved it that way.

-tscales (my 2 bits)

Some of my favorite music... is music I've never heard.

You know what I did when a band was onstage that I didn't do it for me? I went and saw a different band, went and partied in the casino, puffed it out in a new pals room, pretended to eat but was really just drinking wine in the dining room, or I just bumped around and marveled at what was around me. I never witnessed the nonsensical negativity that is on this thread, you guys must have been on JC2. I have no complaints about that time. My pal Julie said it best one day when I was confused if I should wear a skirt or pants, "If that's your biggest dilemma for the week, you're in pretty good shape!" Focus on the positive guys. Life is just too short.

Ding! Ding! Ding! What do we have for him Johnny?

This is the "kid" in the Bisco Crack hat. For the record I'm neither dirty (I shower on a daily basis, sometimes twice if I feel so inclined), stupid (college graduate; English), or sketchy (okay.... maybe a little sketchy). Regardless, the term "Bisco Crack" to we lowly tDB fans is a reference to how uncontrollably rabid some of us get in our devotion to our band. And, as the fine fellow whom I've quoted pointed out in his post, there were many of us there who only came to see tDB. I did have the opportunity to see some other jambands whose music I wouldn't normally have immersed myself in and some of them were incredibly good; however, my wife and I both agreed that if the Biscuits threw their own JamCruise and still played a mere four sets as they did on the Maiden Voyage that I would still drop another two-thousand dollars on it without blinking an eye.
That is "Bisco Crack".
But honestly, I don't care what you think of tDB in precisely the same fashion that you shouldn't care what music I listen to.
As one person posted on Phantasy Tour's Disco Biscuits Messsage Board (in reference to this thread), "Personally I like the reputation. I like that Barber called out a kid at bonnarro and made him cry. I like that many of the dumb toothless wooks that follow SCI, Phil and Phish don't bother coming to our shows because our dumb toothless wooks are meaner and tougher than them." Couldn't have said it better myself. So I didn't bother. Enjoy -your- life folks and quit dwelling on the negativity you see in the lives of others.

Just when I thought this topic was going away - BAM - someone replies and adds a whole new dimension! (Kinda like I just did!)

Below is the link that the above self-proclaimed "BiscoCrackhead" was referencing. After reading it - I think it's kind of funny that a LOT of their fans have had similar encounters with band management, one camera nazi in particular, at different venues.

Furthermore, it would appear that the consenus of the fans on the Phantasy Tour Board is that the Disco Biscuits should simply lighten up. ESPECIALLY since it was JamCruise.

On a side note, it was funny to read comments from people who weren't on the cruise talking about what an insane party it was. Oh well - so much for keeping it on the DL.

Anyway, if ya haven't gotten enough of this horribly negative topic yet.....follow the link below and you can read the comments, some of them quite funny, of a whole bunch of other "BiscoCrackHeads."

http://www.phantasytour.com/bisco/board ... 561&page=1

Ok - that's enough. Now to read some fresh, new, exciting, HAPPY posts!!!

The (fake) Colonel

PS: How many days til JamCruise 2005?
