Hi All! I'm hoping someone can answer my question. This will be my first Jam Cruise and I have an idea that the musicians mingle freely with the other passengers. There are some artists I would very much like to meet if I should be lucky enough to bump into them. My husband thinks there's a VIP area where the musicians will be hanging out rather than mingling. Which is it?

The musicians are all around. you will be elevators with them; you will be in line getting food with them; you might even be the the cabin next to some. you never know who/when/where you will bump into them. There is a musicians only bar but most dont hang out there too often i believe. its really one of the best parts of Jam Cruise. and if you really need to meet a specific artist just get in line for the signings.

You will have the time of you life!!!

I have lunched with Col Bruce & Jimmy Herring, elevatored with Les & Skerik, danced with Grace Potter and with Sharron Jones, done shots and dinner with all the P Groove band, sat on the stairs and talked with Franti about his time in Iraq, partied in the disco with Stanton Moore and experienced a lot of other experiences so just don't get star struck and remember they may be stars but they drink their shots one shot at at time just like the rest of us!!!!!

My first Breakfast on my first Jam Cruise was with The King, George Porter. I didn't know who he was at the time. So-cool because he was so normal and down to Earth.

JC1 my roomies and I were seated at a table for dinner and the host sat Stanton at our table. Best part was one of my roomies couldn't see him and asked the table if anyone was as excited as he was to see Galactic! It was just too funny so we didn't tell him until after dinner that Stanton was at the table.

2 yrs ago I ran up to Karl and invited him to my bday party after the cruise. When I told him it was at the Culture Room he said he was playing there that night. So I told him then that I hoped he'd be there! He just laughed and shook his head as I ran off!

Welcome aboard and get ready for a life changing event!

Do all the musicians do signings? And they have regular cabins? I assumed they would have a floor to themselves or something.

think of jamcruise as being backstage VIP
they all do signings and they could be in the cabin next to you

The VIP area is located in my room. I do plan on letting them have 1 hour of pool deck time per day though.

My 1st JC I had:

breakfast next to Les Claypool
drinks w/ Gibb Droll & Keith Mosely on the beach
& an impromptu private jam session with Tyler Grant

Jamcruise. It's whats up.

They do all have regular cabins interspersed with the rest of us mere mortals. BUT some artists like to hang with the fans more than others. It's really up to them if they want to hang with us (or play in the Jam Room too!), they DO have their own VIP/artist lounge area if they want to avoid most contact but they really can't avoid eating and going up and down elevators from their cabins to the food areas and stages.

Also, there are usually one or two artists that only stay on for half the trip (getting on or off the ship at one of our port stops). There will be two autograph signing sessions, on each of the two days at sea - and each session will have half of the artists set up for signing stuff. So if you MUST see a particular artist be sure to go to the autograph session that they will be in! And be prepared to wait in the longest lines you will ever find on the ship to say "hi" to a sorta-foggy-just-waking-up musician  but it is worth it. And don't forget to bring your camera to the autograph sessions! Most (all?) don't mind posing for a quick pic with you too :)

Good Idea Sharon!! I will add this!!

This is not the typical John Mayer or Kid Rock cruise.. they are all over the boat!! They hang out like we do and since we don't act like stupid fans they are comfortable. To post all my experiences with the artist would take a page!!!

Welcome to the best party EVER!!!

My first 30 min on the boat last year (my first), I Talked to GPJ & his Wife, then Jeff Coffin & his Girlfriend started talking to us. We then decided to get some food in the cafeteria and Ivan sat down with us for lunch. I kept pinching myself thinking is was having a dream. It just kept getting better after that!

This is not meant as knock on Bobby but I just can't imagine him hanging much. The Dead must have gotten Fan-Shy from all those years of worship. Hopefully we can make Bob feel comfortable and not star-assaulted.

We were just discussing whether or not Bobby was going to hang or hide...I hope that he hangs...at least with me...I could make him laugh
