Don't work very well when you actually WANT to hear people you're having a conversation with or when you're walking fairly close to 1 of the zillion raves, A generator & tunes of your own to blast from your camp would be better for much of the time but a lot more expensive.

try these:

I have found that I can have a conversation, using close to a normal speaking voice, right in the front row with them, while not blowing out my eardrums.

After getting earplugs in last year's goodie bag on the boat I've found myself wearing earplugs more and more. When someone tries to scream into your ear when they're next to speaker it doesn't blast out your ear drum. I've wanted to get some nicer ones and with the last two endorsement posts I think I've found them! Thanks stASH & anandamayi!!!

Yeah, they're great, and very reasonably priced. Way cheaper than a hearing aid when you're old.

now that you have earplugs you might want to get a magnifying glass because your already squinting and you don't want to ruin your eyesight do ya?

Last March I went to the Adiologist and confirmed I had http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tinnitus. Mine was a less common 'tapping' that was interfering with sleeping. I had a roll-off of the higher freqs typical of long term abuse (teens?), which made me more susceptible to future damage. And, big ass notch in upper freqs, common to short term exposure.

Luckily, after 4 months, the 'tapping' went away in April (could have lasted for life). At first I could blatantly hear the uneven response of both ears.
The brain eventually compensates. But, the damage is absolutely permanent.

An interesting question the doctor asked during the evaluation was "Do you have trouble hearing women in loud clubs ?" Women have higher freq voices. Indicating that I had the long term roll-off issue for awhile.

I've always been knowledgeable about hearing loss (like most of us). I mostly used hearing protection for years. Now I don't fuck around.

I'm excited to compare these "Ear Peace" to the "Ety Plugs" I like.

So Ladies, I know a nice quiet place we can go talk.

Odman, study the piss out of that eplaya/burningman site like Collin said. You'll pick up hubris like the issues in your Orig post. None of that is going to effect you first time. I had the very same questions. The second I got there I realised the gigantic scope of the thing made it impossible to evaluate. Still don't know WTF I saw ? So much WTF.

I didn't see any of the "Barter" thing they hype ? It does go along with the strict no-vending rule however. I still saw only tiny bit of the giant WTF that BurningMan is. So WTF do I know?

I was drawn to the immense spectacles, plenty of that for even the most jaded.

It's like the many layers of an onion. Except, its a truck load of onions. With Rabbit Holes everywhere.

Just stumbled across this video from 2007. It's Not Safe For Work? (I'd think just watching BuringMan videos period at work would be a red flag?)

It's not a commentary on BM. It is just a well done clip from one person's perspective (makes the event look tiny. It's not). The second half of the clip focuses on his friend's struggle with sanity.

This is the time of year that people start uploading cool vids of of their BM adventure. I see no harm in posting vids in this thread ?? It could be considered 'Land Yachting'.

I don't qualify as a 'Burner'. I do LOVE seeing the vids and hearing the 'Tales'. How does 'our' community feel about more vids in this thread ??

I love those earpeace ear plugs too. 12 bucks, they have their own carrying case. They are really comfortable.
