Correct, AT LEAST YOU ARE STILL HERE, for everything else buy the travel insurance next time. I'm sorry for all the hardships, I am sorry for all the pain of the word, I am sorry that life is unpredictable! I am grateful that I can afford this kind of vacation and I grateful that I can hedge my bets by buying said insurance..you never want to use it..but it is a risk to get out of bed, it is a risk to drive to the store, it is a risk to even shower, it is a risk to just exist..and yes, they sell insurance for all these things.

I think it should probably be included in the price (of course meaning that the price increases, we all understand that). I fully agree with Aslan, unless you can afford to flush $1000 or more down the toilet, you need insurance. But after having stated this obvious fact, is there any reason to even leave the door open for such a death trap. I know it's common practice in the industry to let people worry about their own shit, but we're better than other cruises, right? Just set the deductible at something reasonable (strawman: $200) and include the insurance. Opinions?
(disclaimer: for all of you that wants to call me any kind of ****ist, there are plenty of forums for you to do so. Go ahead!)

BANJOIST! That's what you are! http://www.morewords.com/ends-with/ist/

I don't think C9 should be getting into the insurance business and I don't want to be required to use their provider if I have another option that fits my life style. So, no I do not think it should be included in the price. Yes, they have a provider they suggest but there are others out there and some may even be able to leverage their health, home or other insurance to cover this trip.
Yes, please let ME take care of my own shit.

FWIW:
I normally use travel insurance and, as I'm sure you know, they have very tight restrictions.
The last two times I filed a claim I was denied.
Most recent was arriving at Ft Lauderdale Airport two plus hours prior to boarding.
I knew I was in trouble right away when I saw people lined up on the sidewalk outside the airline terminal.
They were having computer problems that brought the whole check-in process to a crawl (sound familiar?)
Even after bribing a skycap $50 to sneak me way ahead in line (was an important trip, Dad's operation), I still missed my flight and my travel insurance dissed me because the "situation does not meet the technical terms of the contract".

I don't know how often people do not qualify for the terms in their insurance contract but I thought it was important to point out how important it is to research you carrier well and read all the fine print.....but even then.

On a side note:
I was distressed and in tears, Dad had a 50/50 chance of surviving surgery.
A representative from another airline (Southwest) saw me, heard my story, and took me into a corporate office where she made some calls and got me on the next flight at a highly reduced rate. There is some good left in our world!

Spirit Airlines kept my $400 (with zero services provided), the insurance company kept $35 (with zero services provided) and the Skycap made an easy $50

Life's been good to me since last year, and although i failed to get any credit/discount, I was lucky enough to book a room on this years cruise. I look forward to seeing all of you great people in a few weeks and can't express how much your kind words, advice and support helped me through such a difficult time. Can't wait to see you all on the boat and celebrate this beautiful and blessed life that we are so fortunate to take part in. MUCH LOVE AND SEE YOU ON THE BOAT!

Hey Boca! I'm wondering what insurance company you used. I hope it was different from mine, because I'm always putting in the good word for them.

We used the one recommended by Cloud9, and it saved our bacon last year when the snowstorm trapped us in Ft Lauderdale for 4 days after the cruise (not that we were complaining about sitting on an 80 degree beach). They paid for our hotel, every meal, extra cab fare to and from the airport, extra airport parking fees, and even extra pet-boarding fees. I always expect an insurance company to dispute something, but they never did.

that is very cool. I guess I just assumed that the insurance only covered issues with the cruise itself, and not travel plans to/from the ship.

I'm not positive but if I remember correctly I booked directly through the Spirit Airlines website and they had an insurance option embedded right on the booking page that they call Travel Guard Insurance.
