This was yesterday, 5/6/12 on Ft Lauderdale Beach. In 1990, I lived in the neighborhood across from Pier 66 Hotel and often enjoyed riding my bike into Port Everglades to feed manatees. That was before the security. There is a canal there where Florida Power and Light discharges their cooling water. It was full of tropical fish and manatee. I had never heard of them spotted on the beach. Once though, while waiting at the bus stop in front of Pier 66, a squirrel monkey surprised me to take my fritos from me. Tarzan movies were filmed nearby and monkeys are still around as a result.

wow - that's pretty cool! woulda freaked me the heck out though, seeing a big ol' dark shadow heading towards me in the water -> yikes!

Wow! What a wild and wonderful expierence Don't know if I would've hung around in the water with them. Regardless of their diet and gentle nature, they are HUGE!

We totally saw a manatee when we were standing on our cabin balcony before we left port on JC9. Hanging out right next to the boat!

Yup, they just don't get it that boats are bad for them. I don't recall ever seeing one without big nasty scars on its back.

We look for them all the time when we go out on our boat! We live on the water just north of Ft. Lauderdale and Larry keeps sayi g they might even come by our house in the next few months! We live one canal off the Inter Coastal.. Anyway, I'd love to see some! Thanks for posting Paul!
