BTW, about official hotels: this year's choices were pretty bad and very pricey, we didn't even get negotiated JC rates. I would first of all check if there are rooms left around Bahia Cabana or Bahia Mar. That's where everything happens anyway. If you can be at the tiki bar the night before sailing you will already have met half the boat and possibly some of the artists before the cruise starts.

eGADS 2013?

Hey there whirlygirl...I'm a Vermonter too...southern...Manchester...this will be my 4th or "RO" year too...we have quite a few other Vermonters all over the state that either have been or will be with us this year...definately try to make it to the Bahia Cabana the night before the cruise...virtually everyone there will be a cruiser either visiting or staying there..it's a great way to begin your adventure...they are probably sold out by now so you may not be able to get a room there but at least come over and be with the rest of us...
The one thing I can add is to remember it is a marathon not a sprint....and I couldn't agree more about the BBC breakfast idea...in fact the are great any time of the day...last year the bar in the cafeteria seemed to always have bannas to make them...
Anyway...welcome to the "Jamily" and be ready for the time of your life.....56 DAYS !!!

Last year was my virgin sailing, and I thought that I was a solo traveler until I arrived and kept bumping into people I knew from ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. To say "Get ready for the time of your life" is a mere understatement.
Costumes- YES! As elaborate or simple as your comfort dictates.
Pill bottles- YES! Pain in the ass, but it's best to work the just in case angle, especially on prescription drugs.
Food- YES! I had absolutely no complaints last year. Worst cast scenario is that you're stuck with pizza and salad.
Sleep- YES! Get the rest you need and then it's time to WAKE UP AND RAGE!
Friends- YES! Come find me and let the shenanigans begin. (14013)
Music- YES YES YES!!!

we met in 2005 when i came out to SF for the TLG shows at the Independent!
i can't remember if i met you at that pre-show photo party, but i went to that after party
with Millstone where ALO members were playin', and i will never forget a quote of yours that night:

so glad yer gonna be on the Boe.t!!! this is gonna be the best Boat evAR!

people who have been on more JCs than i have already made many helpful comments,
but please feel free to ask me for information at any time. one thing i can add is that,
while i never had any and am not prone to motion sickness, i didn't sleep for the first 3 days
due to (sensory overload, excitement, and) jiggling. once they fire her up, the Boat never
stops jiggling! sleep aids are in order for a light-sleeping, sunrise-seeking idiot like me.

you probably know people on the Boat and don't even know it (actually, wait, you do! ),
and you will meet so many fun people you'll run out of pockets in which to keep them.
if you can swing it schedule-wise, the day-before-day-after arrival and departure are key.
come by the tiki bar at the Days Inn Bahia Cabana the night before the cruise and say "hi"
to me and some new friends!! can't wait to boogie with you again!!!

I actually believe that I remember you! We had a blast! I am excited to see the boys and
I am really excited to connect with you!!

I am so smitten with all of the love that I have been receiving from the Jam Fam!! I will be staying next door to the Bahia hotel the night before and will be at the tiki bar with bells on... perhaps literally!! On the way home I will be staying at Bahia and I am already sad thinking about all of this ending!

I am creating my own virgin guide so that maybe next year I can pass along all of the wisdom to the newbies since I will be on JC12 for sure!!

Welcome aboard! There is not much to say that the folks before me havent already said, but I wanted to chime in just to say hello. Get ready for the time of your life. If you don't walk away from this cruise with a ton of new friends... well, you have done something wrong.. and given that you are already posting on the forum and planning on stopping by the bahia for the pre party, i don't think you are doing anything wrong.

yay, i am now at the Bahia Cabana for both bookends - i've been hunting the sold-out back end
for months and your message reminded me to check again, and they had more rooms available!

it may be hard to believe but, as excited as you are now, you will be even more excited in the future!!!
i remember the whole whirlwind of embarkment and being giddy with it all and it still wasn't until
we began to sail away that i catapulted over the top of the fun-o-meter and thought to myself
(and probably out loud) "holyshitholyshitholyshit! wait, THIS IS THE COOLEST EVER!!"

i'm a guidemaker myself. my folders have been growing with excitement, too.
