LIVE MUSIC UPDATE: GUITARFISH, DEAD WINTER CARPENTERS, EDDIE ROBERTS & PAISLEY PIX; 55 NEW SHOWS

Howdy!

Hope you're doing exceptionally well and having a great week!! Guitarfish was incredibly fun!!! The bands, new set-up, sound, lights, hospitality, weather and hanging with a bunch of friends were phenomenal! Aside from the inexplicable 40 minutes it took to get in, the only thing it lacked were about more 500 people, even though there were more than the first two years. Hopefully that won't keep the promoters from wanting to do it again. I heartfully thank everyone who put it on and got it on!!!!!

I paid $10 for a Tahoe Phish ticket a minute before it started the first night and got within 3 people of the rail. Exceptional show from start to finish!!! The second night, at least a half hour before and after it started, there were many more people buying than selling tickets. Very few went for less than face value, which I couldn't afford. I caught most of the show with a friend picnicing with several cool folks among trees at the back left of the arena. The sound was fine. I caught the last few tunes with four more friends behind the stage in the lot. Unlike many diehard Phishies, I thought the show was a bit underwhelming due to too much noodling (the so-called epic Tweezer in particular) and rather downbeat tunes, especially in the second set. The first night I caught all of Polecat, most of Sam Bush and about 30 minutes of ALO at the Horizon, which was a blast!! The second night I caught almost all of Poor Man's Whiskey, a couple Pimps of Joytime tunes, all of Karl Denson's Tiny Universe and the last 20 or so minutes of Hot Buttered Rum at the Horizon, all of which was a blast again!!

The Blue Turtle Seduction reunion at Great Basin Brewery was outstanding and brought back a slew of great memories of all their other GB shows! Hopefully they'll reunite more often, as numerous fans rather seriously missed them!

This weekend is going to be epic! Kicks off with Mama's Cookin' at King's Beach Recreational Area at 6 tonight, followed by Mingo Fishtrap (8 piece Austin, TX funk), Terraplane opening and Funky Miracle afterparty at the Crystal Bay Club at 9. Both are FREE! On Saturday, the Brews, Jazz & Funk Fest at Squaw Village kicks off with Trombone Shorty & Orleans Ave., Nigel Hall Band (including Lettuce members), Mojo Green and Mark Sexton Band. Sunday is March Fourth Marching Band, Zig Modeliste (The Meters' drummer), Jelly Bread and Terraplane. Starts at 2 and a $5 donation each day goes to the Humane Society. Nigel and a Downbeat afterparty are free at the CBC Saturday at 10.
