I gotta revise what I originally wrote in this thread. I just found out that Stanton Moore is coordinating the all-star jam? If that is true, good call. I really like the idea of having him think about it before the ship sets sail. Maybe Stanton will call some of the bands, plan some line-ups, plan some songs. I'm totally for improvising, just in a structure that makes sense and not a free-for-all with everyone on stage ('cept for maybe one jam)
I would like to see some collaborations, rather than "ALL-star jams." Here's what I mean... A lot of all-star jams are just a cluster with so many people blowing. I would like to see some one-off bands formed, like.... drummer from one band, bass from another, guitar from another (probably works best to either pick among the funk-rock type bands, the trance-fusion types, or the folk-bluegrass-acoustic types, but crossovers are possible too).
Also looking forward to 'guest appearances' and hopefully crazy backwards unexpected stuff like Peter Rowan joining Disco Biscuits or Particle or Umphrey's for a trance-rock version of one on PR's bluegrass/folk/reggae songs. (You know you usually see a guest simply try to fit in on a song by the band he's joining. I'd like for the band to work up a cover of a song, and then play it with the original author.)
Hey, All-Star Jam, cool. Above ideas, even coola. Whatever you got, bring it on.[/b]
