Since Key West is in the USA, will we have to go through US customs before Key West's stop also?

Just once before you get on the boat in Ft Lauderdale and once when you get off in Ft Lauderdale

HOWEVER

Getting on and off each port, in Nassau and Key West, they have the power to sick the dogs on you if they feel the need to.

I don't remember ever going through customs when leaving before. Is this part of recent heightened security?

I only care about when we embark the boat.

I took a cruise ship over to the Bahamas 8 years ago and we had to go through US custom's on the way over, which really wasn't anything they just made sure we had our papers, then on the way back from the Bahamas we went through custom's and I was the lucky one out of my group to be searched thank goodness for hidding spots, but the Bahama's were very cool and let me go through, so everybody should be VERY CAREFUL!!! Florida Laws are very harsh!

Julie?
You have been very quickly responsive to unimportant questions-
how about responding to a crucial one?

I was on another message board and people were talking about cruises and here is what someone wrote.

------------------------------------------------------
I just went on a cruise three weeks ago. I am quite
familiar with the rules and regulations, and we
definitely tested them.

First of all, they make no secret about it being
international waters when you get that far. They open
up the casinos and shit, and things really get
under-way.

Before you go, they take your bags and load them for
you, anything you want to bring should be in a carry
on. Boarding is just like getting on an airplane. Same
scanner, same metal detector, but they are way more
relaxed with personal checking. I brought something w/
me, and it was no problem.

Also, on the way back into the U.S. practically NO
CHECKING at all of bags, and NONE for carry-off. I
went to Jamaica. Do the math.

Basically, it no stress security, Their job is to make
sure you have a blast, and there were no issues.
Whether or not a certain govt agency has gotten wind
of this thing, I do not know. Just use your brain and
relax and HAVE FUN!

Bump for Julie or JamCruise Admin.

Can you please clarify what the deal is with customs when leaving the country? I don't have anything to hide, but it would be nice to know what to expect.

Thanks!

When we cruised last year, it was much like going through the airport except the cruise/customs peeps didn't seem quite as rabid. Your carry-on bags will probably go through an x-ray, so don't leave cameras or film in them - take it out and let them pass the film around the machine for you.

Carnival let us bring one bottle of wine or champagne for the shove off, but that may not be OK with this shipping line.

We had to walk through a metal detector, but no one patted us down or treated us like criminal suspects. All in all, not an unpleasant experience.

We were on a cruise a couple of years ago to Mexico. Went through customs in FL before getting on the boat. Went through again when we got back to FL. Exactly like going to the airport. At the ports of call our bags were x-rayed & we went thru a metal detector when we got back on the boat.

Could some of you relax and let Julie get back from her Phish New Year's vacation. She has a life of her own you know.
I have two suggestions.
1. Read all the information made available on the web-site and use your own brain.
2. If 1. doesn't work, pick up the phone and call Madison House and ask a real person a specific question. The phone number is available on the web-site.
